Cycled round Assynt today. Lochinver-Inverpolly-Stac Polly-Loch  Assynt. Hard going but magnificent. I did it on my mountain bike but should have used the road bike. There was the usual North West wind and a lot of hills, so with plenty of stops for photos it took me the full day. Wildlife spotted- ravens, buzzards, an owl and hooper swans. The roads were very quiet. On the notice board at Ardvreck a snatch of poetry from the great MacCaig:
An old song
makes history alive again
as a rickle of stones peoples  the dark theatre
of the mind with a shooting crowd and,
in the middle, MacLeod of Assynt
and his great prisoner- Montrose
